Practical facts when you fly to Moscow or St. Petersburg


-If you are traveling within Russia consider taking a cheap flight between Moscow and St.Petersburg, it is certainly faster than taking a train and the signs are in english.
-If you don’t want to pay double for a world renowned Russian Opera or Ballet ticket, making reservations two months before the actual performance is recommend.
-if you want to improve your visit to Russia pack a mini-dictionary. Learn some phrases in russian -privyet (hi), do svidaniya (goodbye), spasiba (thanks), izvinitye (excuse me)
-if you fly to Russia you must register within three days of arrival. The immigration form received at passport control must go wherever your passport goes - you will get a stamp at your hotel that will complete the registration process. Be sure to register at every new hotel you stay at when moving from city to city.
-if you bring cash when travel to Russia in general it should be in pristine condition – crumpled or old notes are often refused.When exchanging curency you may be asked for your pasport.
-If you are an American citizen with an after-hours emergency, please call the US embassy after-hours hotline at: (7) (495) 728-5000.

-if you want to have a plesant vacation in Russia pack smart(comfortable shoes and warm and waterproof clothes) and travel light(one check in luggage plus carry on).
-If you overstay your visit to Russia even by a few minutes, you will likely be prohibited from leaving until you obtain a valid exit visa.
-if you buy gasoline in Russia remember it is measured in liters (there are about 4 liters in a gallon).Knowing Russian measurements and standards is important because they appear on signs, boards in stores and in markets.
